I said that I would report on Lowell General Hospital’s food, following surgery for my brand new hip. I have changed my mind. It truly would not be fair, after all. LGH’s staff and employees have been amazing customers for my two restaurants through the years–they are SO supportive, and in all that time, they have never, ever reviewed my restaurants for my ability to control blood pressure or treat cancer! Seriously.
I will report two things only, or otherwise, I would write pages and pages of how great they were throughout my entire process leading up to, and post operatively, for my TWO new hips.
Report #1. They offer room service. Now, again, it is a hospital, and I am a spoiled, spoiled man when it comes to dining–but you can pick up the phone from 6AM to 9PM and order “a burger” and it will be delivered to your room. And, they will ask, “Do you want anything else?” HOWEVER…let me emphasize…if you say “No, just a burger” in your grumpy, drug-induced haze, understand this. You will be taken literally!
And, report #2. As a microcosm of my entire experience, let me share this; Two weeks before surgery, I needed to go to LGH for pre op testing. And it went like this. I showed up at 8:30AM as they offerred and I accepted. At 8:35, I was registering at registration. And given a beeper, for when they were ready to take my EKG. Then, again, the beeper for when they wanted to take my blood. Then, for when they wanted to x-ray me. Then again, when they wanetd to discuss anathesia options. Then again, when it was time to pee in a cup. Then again, when it was time to fill out paperwork and ask questions. Then, at 9:35 AM, one hour later, the Valet asked if I wanetd my car brought out front.
That’s my story. 5 tests, in 5 departments, in ONE HOUR!
Here I am, 5 days from surgery…feeling great, and so ready to get back to work. After all, Folk Festival is only 4 weeks away!!!
