EFFICIENCY OUT OF CONTROL

I purchased a re built MAC recently, on line.

A day later, I received a text saying that my MAC would ship to my chosen pick up location within (7) days.

(4) days later, I received another text saying that my MAC is scheduled to be delivered “tomorrow.”

On tomorrow (Friday), I received another text from Apple saying that my computer has been delivered.

All the while I am thinking, what great efficiency–no wonder these guys rule!  (I’ve never had a MAC–I’m not one of the cool kids)

So, on Saturday, two hours before I was to prepare for a wedding, and a weekend away, packing and what-not on my mind, I did the unthinkable…

I headed to Nashua’s DW Highway and the Pheasant Lane Mall, on a Saturday morning, 11 a.m.  I sped just below the speeding-ticket threshold, used my blinker everytime I sort-of cut someone off, hit all the right lanes, punched the gas in a split-second every  time the light turned green, took the un-congested 1st entrance and looped all the way to the edge of the parking lot, knowing that I was a long-brisk walk from the Apple Store, but saved seconds on the whole parking-ballet deal. I grabbed cell phone and keys, hustled in, past the Starbucks line, through the candle-kitchen-baking-vanilla-perfume smell, past the Goth kids and their chains and baggy black capris and meaty white calves and black lipstick (I swear the mall pays these kids to always be there…part of the “Mall experience”), I whisked/lumbered past the sexy American Eagle Billboards and bold “I’M WITH HER > ” T shirt booths, and just-like-that I stood at the front of the Apple store as my facilitator spoke into his blue tooth on a necklace, to the coordinator in the back, who appeared a minute later with his tablet and typed in my order number from my text message, and looked at me–completely confused as to why he had to explain– “Sir, it is not ready for pick up.”  I asked, then, why did I receive a notice that it was delivered.  His response?  “Well, sir, it HAS been delivered.  You will receive a text when it is ready to be picked up.”

“That’s just plain old stoopid” I may have said.  But seriously…

“Thank you for your order”
“Your order will be delivered in 7 days”
“Your order will ship tomorrow”
“Your order has been delivered”
and,
“Your order is now ready for pick up?”

…Spare me the unnecessary details.  Please.

Just sayin’
