STREET CRED

I wrote recently about Lowell taking two steps forward, and one step back…a pattern that has gone on forever.  (Or, the 21+ years I have been here anyway)

It feels like that is changing…maybe…

(Of course, I am still not sure how a huge courthouse helps us out more than a huge commercial building filled with high-tech employees who, rather than have a checkered past, wear checkered shirts and drink craft beer, and shop for cool gifts, and visit art galleries.  But, what do I know…?  Maybe it actually goes something like this:

“Hey Johnny, your lawyer was wicked good dude.  A plea to a mis-da-meanah?!  WTF Johhny!  You know you did that shit, but wtf brotha!  Hey, let’s pahty!  We’re in fockin Lowell man.  It’s your day brotha–should we go get a fockin’ cappuccino, or score some Oxy?  Wtf!”

Anyway…

Lately, many new things keep popping up, often restaurants (because someone out there thinks that is the way to grow the community I think…)  Buuut– “Authentic” Mexican.  Mediteranean/Lebanese.  Uncharted Gallery.  Tobias Marx.  (Shout out to Made in Lowell!)  Umass, Umass, Umass.  Another attempt at an Octoberfest celebration (Tobias!)…this weekend…hopefully this one will take root and grow!  (We’d love to see you there…we got the Brats!)

A food truck slash live music party/festival in Kerouac Park even weeks ago!  (Tobias!)  What a great time that was.  You could even buy a beer.  Holy smokes!  Finally the “old guard” has moved on, and a new wave of progressive thinking, reasonable political influence have moved in to City Hall!  Brighter days ahead…for sure.

But of all the things that are popping up around Lowell, in this guys opinion, none give the city more street-cred than a ramen shop.  That’s right–Lowell is now officially cool-like-that.  Ramen.  What the…

(Note: For the record, one day, Pho will be all the rage.  Those who love it locally, already know.   One day, the rest “of you” will find out–when the trend begins, when “Eater” says so–and Lowell will be immediately, the coolest kids ever.)
