…and lemon soap…and lemon candles, candies, cookies, pastries, salad dressing, Christmas ornaments and much more, you may just be on the Amalfi Coast, Italy.
And don’t forget the limoncello, because they sure don’t.
It’s sold in liquor shops, gift shops, convenience stores, delis (salumerias) and gas stations. In square bottles, lemon shaped bottles, tall thin bottles and bottles shaped like, well, tall glass-hard penises. Complete with “lemons.” (Which, make great photo ops when someone, who will remain nameless, passes out on the couch!)
After almost ever meal–which, from Sorrento to Amalfi, almost always includes a pizza first course (often, not ordered), fresh bread and the finest olive oil, a house made pasta dish “secondi,” juicy and sweet tomatoes, fresh milky mozzarella, rocket greens and just-caught seafood–a complimentary round of limoncello is roundly presented. “Grazie!” “Prego!”
I’m often conflicted as to whether to drink limoncello, or, polish the furniture. But, the ubiquitous Amalfi generosity abounded over the past 10 days and was greatly appreciated.
