WHEN I GROW UP…

Last night, we paid a visit to a family member in a Boston hospital. Upon leaving, my father in law suggested that we stop for a snack, “his treat”. Being a big fan of snacks, and treats, my wife Kathy and I eagerly accepted, and then suggested Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square, “just down the road”. Of course, “snack” could have meant Chipotle or Longhorn! HA! Not with this group.

If you have never been to ES, you are missing out. This is a TOP NOTCH Boston success that has it all (except quiet!!!!). A great vibe, terrific music, beautiful and grand French decor, incredible food and a star bartender who makes his own vermouth, bitters, maraschino cherries etc. The Bleu Cheese Souffle with Golden beets and arugala was so good we ordered it twice! The Charcuterie with house cured meats including a RIDICULOUS Foie Gras Terrine, and King Crab Leg appetizer for $7.00 that absolutely must be a loss leader, got things rolling in high fashion.

Head bartender Jackson Cannon stopped over at the table after sending sample concoctions (we never miss the opportunity to “mention” that we own restaurants!) that were incredible. A Gin Flip with egg and nutmeg, A Rum and Sherry concoction with orange bitters, a house made Rose Vermouth with Cava and something else I can’t remember…all made us giddy while impressing!

Then, the bill came as F.I.L. returned from the bathroom and he almost laughed out loud…. “How could it be so cheap“!!? he boasted. Being “his” treat, he was sufficiently pleased that it was so amazingly affordable! “Haha, score one for Granpa”!

And, we left grateful, not having had to fight over the bill. I’m just sayin’

Check it out; Eastern Standard

And, check out the next issue of Merrimack Valley Magazine, when my column addresses the many great perks of being in this crazy business!

As soon as all passengers have been accounted for, the airline points a ultimate manifest, which can be used to notify family in the unlikely occasion of an air disaster. Passenger airlines load civilian passengers, their luggage (and generally their pets), snacks and drinks. All of this data, plus a code for the final destination, seems on a boarding go, which is printed out and given to the passenger.
