The single best answer I have ever received, after 30 years of holding interviews (Damn! When did I get so old!?) was to the following question;
“What do you think represents, or defines a great employee?”
His answer; “Whatever you say it is.”
Unfortuantely, understanding who is buttering your bread, and who dicates the thing does not translate into actual performance. For all his savvy, he had no game.
The 2nd most impressive maybe came this week. His words, straight faced, eye to eye; “You won’t be disappointed if you hire me. I am a machine.”
We will see.
