We had another new employee orientation this week…and it was a “sold out show.”
Between growth and turnover, we have put over 20 new people on the floor of both restaurants in the last 90 days.
These orientations were the idea of Earl Howard, our incredible Director of Operations (and “growth consultant” …wink wink), who thought that as we grow, it is important that new employees receive a firsthand message from the owner (me!), who is no longer in touch with all staff on a daily basis, to make introductions and to share what makes our restaurants special–the passion, the committment, and, as we make sure they understand every couple of months… “YOU.”
And that “YOU” refers to both interpretations…our guests, but as importantly, our staff. As YOU, a regular reader and guest knows, we maintain the employment of only “great” people–staff who are great at being kind, caring, proactive, supportive….Skills? We can teach skills. And we do. Nice? Caring? Passion? That can’t be taught, and therefore, it is those who we seek exclusively. We seek great people and we ask two main things;
1. That they are committed to “get better everyday”
2. They are committed to making everyone else better. (It takes a village, or if you prefer, All Oars in the water–I can never decide which expression I love more!)
Our people are responsible for the fact that moonstones celebrates its FIVE year anniversar today, and COBBLESTONES enters it’s 20th year! (whoa)
Our people. Staff, and you. Thank you all so much. We are as committed as we ever were, to blowing you away!
**On a funny “side” note… A sweet, young girl–whose name I can’t recall–sat through the entire orientation, including the “getting to know you” phase where she claimed “I am 15, it is my 1st job, and I am new to this country” The next day, administrator Holly could still not match her name to the attendance list, and it was then that we discovered..She had come in for a job, and someone must have directed her into the “new employee orientation”, and no one knew!! I guess we maybe, sort of, should just hire her now!
