LESSONS

I had a grandfather who was extremely successful as a NYC buisnessman, taking over for his dead father as a teenager, and making moves for decades, until he finally retired well into his 60’s.  Poised to kick-back and relax, to enjoy his hard-earned retirement, he struggled daily with cancer soon thereafter, until the day he lost the fight for good.  From work, to his grave, in a matter of a few short, suffering years.

I was explaining recently, to one of my favorite people in the whole world, that this was only one of many lessons I took from Pop–and that I will not have the same regret, should fate point its gnarled and nasty finger at me some time in the future.

She replied eloquently (as always) “No one has ever wished upon their death bed that they had spent more time at work.”

Work hard, play hard, have no regrets.
