MILLSTONE!?

I had the great pleasure of taking a tour of Mill No. 5 last week.
This  AMAZING space and construction using unique, beautiful, and historic reclaimed building materials throughout was so much more than I envisioned.  And beyond a brilliant afternoon sun streaming through the seemingly  endless floor to ceiling windows, the architecture wasn’t the only thing “popping”…Welcome to Lowell, Corn & Company—who filled our arms with samples of caramel, cheese, smoky bacon, rainbow and black truffle-sea salt popcorn created right there on floor #4.

What Jim Lichoulas and his family are doing in yet another historic Lowell mill restoration is truly awe inspiring.  You don’t have to be a historian, an artist, or “old folk” to feel awed and small as you walk through these behemoth mill buildings with their 30ft. ceilings enumerable windows—many from top to bottom—reclaimed wooden, oil soaked floors and giant beams overhead—the smell of industry brings you back couple hundred years to a wholly different time and place.  As I gaped (close your mouth dude!) I longed for soft leather shoes and suspenders to hook my thumbs through!

It’s crazy, what these guys are doing as they transform immense, long-broken and barren rooms that stretch the length of a football field.  Piece by piece, a brand new set of pioneer are setting up here and brightening formerly barren space with color and creativity!

**A list of current and pending occupants is below.

Mill No. 5, in an age of mass production and corporatism, is an entirely unique, one in a million type building, and an ongoing project to watch.

A huge shout-out to all of you are breathing life into this long forgotten treasure.

Folks…If you get the chance, go visit/support this thing…that could really use a cool-ass restaurant and craft beer respite!  (Just thinking…)

  1. I don’t think the title of your article matches the content lol. Just kidding, mainly because I had some doubts after reading the article.
