Chelmsford, we like you. You’re ok. The people? Excellent, in general, fine, intelligent, appreciative of our restaurant and very supportive. We continue to grow each year, now in our 8th! (Where does the time go!) Would we be busier down the road? Perhaps.
Then, there’s City Hall. Again, no problem with the folks–individually. Nice folks, love their town…like things quiet maybe. In general, the bosses have been supportive. But ‘our’ overall problem with signage and promoting business in town is a little painful. Don’t take this the wrong way, but this isn’t Martha’s Vineyard. Or historic Concord. Or one of those fancy, expensive neighborhoods with gates and private chefs and rows of long, thin pointy noses to took down!
There are gas stations. Daily traffic stops. Highway exits. Dunkin Donuts and CVS’. Yet, any time we put out a (nice, professionally printed, classy) sign on the curb to let all those fine, hard working people of Chelmsford (who may not be on Facebook!) know we have, say, Buck a Shuck Oysters for $1.00 each on Monday afternoons, we get a slap on the wrist. Memo to town hall: The newspaper is limping…
**BTW…We are grateful that the more progressive thinkers and business friendly decision-makers recently influenced the passing of a law to allow occasional temporary signage–two weeks per every THREE months–to help us get worthy news out there. Maybe, just maybe, the rest of the sleepy “not in my town” heads will see that small sidewalk signs don’t actually create the perceived eye sore of many other things we could point to–and lighten up a tad more.
Chelmsford is becoming more dynamic all the time. Let it happen guys! Thriving business is fun–and residents can still roll up the sidewalks at 9pm and get a good night sleep!
(Except Friday nights…stay tuned for TBA promotional news; Watch our curb…carefully…for two weeks next month!)
