NATURAL SELECTION

We interviewed a sous chef candidate recently in our forever search for the perfect recipe of excellence for our “village.”  The yin and yang of left brain vs. right brain, task masters vs. the charming and sales driven, the sensitive and gentle who balance those with broad shoulders and tenacity. (and ocasionally, one in the same!)

(One of our key phrases, and more so, key philosophies to excellence is “It takes a village”–the somewhat basic premise that if we choose our staff well, we together represent an integral component of the whole–that chemistry which delivers to our guests the best possible experience.  The amazing plate that is produced both by she who orders and handles the components well, and they who cuts or chops, flavors, combines, heats and serves it beautifully)

We asked her how she had heard of us, what prompted her to choose to interview with us.  She shared that beyond loving the menus, she read this blog, and in so doing felt that the focus on culture, and the value we placed on our staff was in line with her own values.

Following a couple of (great) interviews, she has since been hired–and we are very confident we have chosen wisely–and she too–for the long term benefit of our tribe!  I am certain we just got better.  What’s more exciting than that!  (Another, challenging axiom we use around the Stones Group is, “get better everyday”….no small task)

**And, on and on, our Rule #1 never falters–and we thank YOU for noticing its evidence all the time and sharing your observations; That we hire ONLY fine people.  The village takes care of the rest.
