CREATURE

Lord help me.

I’m “that guy.”

It didn’t occur to me until this morning when I nearly tripped and fell on my face for the second time in a week!  It only took 52 years to truly see it.  Amazing.

After a string of stressful days–more so than usual–realizing that my life may actually be spent saying the same things over and over (and over and over) again…trying to move steadily forward while barefoot in perpetual mud, I figured cleaning the piles from the floor of my room might help with a fresher outlook today!   A new day, and oh snap, is that carpet!?

And as I picked up, then carted to the big blue barrel, nearly 20 lbs of 80% unread Sunday Times, it hit me.  Each and every other Sunday, I grab the last couple of papers intent on some serious reading.  I pull my favorite sections (I’m not telling!), hide the magazine from Kathy for later, before it gets paired, somewhere, with my shoes and the remote control, and I set to reading.

Ineveitably, the same thing happens each and every time.  Actually…the same thingS.

– I get distracted.  Generally with thoughts of work.

– I close the section I am reading, gather the paper, and set it aside to read more later.

– Months go by.  No, seriously, months.

– The pile grows, eventually casting a shadow.  No, seriously, a shadow.

– I eventually nearly trip/slip on the leaning, sliding pile, more mud, and…

– I clean my room.

– The recycle bin fills quickly.

(I keep the magazines for the amazing culinary perspectives that are occasionally included–intent on locating the specific ones I no longer recall in that separate pile…eventually.)

Creatures of habit, raise your hand.

HIT.

  1. Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
